Creating a new property

To create a new property, follow these steps:

1. Optional: Highlight the folder or browser in the Folder/Browser Window Pane which you desire to set the new property value differently for compared to the other folders and browsers. For example, if you are adding a new property called Widget and plan to set its value differently for the Netscape browser than for most others, highlight the Netscape browser.

2. Perform one of the following actions:

3. The Property form will now open. After completing the form as desired, the newly added property will appear in the Properties Window Pane.

Tip: Highlighting a browser or folder in optional step #1 allows you to both create a new property and assign a value for a specific browser or folder and its children all in one step. Otherwise you can modify the values as desired at a later time.

Note: When you add a new property, it is automatically added to every defined browser and folder. It is not possible to create properties that exist for some browsers and folders but not others.

Note: Any new properties you add can only be retrieved by the ActiveX version of BrowserHawk. If using the native .NET version or JavaBean version (BrowserHawk4J) you will not be able to access any properties you create on your own – only the cyScape provided properties are available in these versions. If it is very important that you access custom properties from .NET or Java, consider overriding the values provided by another property that you are not using otherwise.
