Using the Browser form

The BrowserHawk Editor provides a quick and powerful way for you to easily track new browsers and their capabilities. Shown below is the form used to add and modify browsers.

Parent:

The assigned parent affects both the default properties that the browser will inherit, and where in the window pane the browser will be added. By default, the parent for the newly added browser will be set to the currently selected browser or folder in the Folder/Browser Window Pane. If you wish to assign this browser to a different parent, choose it from the options presented.

Browser description:

The browser description controls how the browser will be listed in the Folder/Browser Window Pane. Each browser description must be unique within the BDF file. This description is for informational purposes only from within the BrowserHawk Editor itself. Do not confuse this with the "Browser" property, which is used to display the general name for the browser and is accessible in your BrowserHawk objects.

Identifying user agent string:

This value is of critical importance, as it controls how BrowserHawk finds the appropriate browser definition for the browser visiting your web site. When you create a BrowserHawk object from within your web script, the BrowserHawk ActiveX component compares the user agent of the visiting browser to all of the identifying user agent strings in the Master BDF .
